Goalie gear fit
Is your equipment letting you get down and back up?

Why it matters
Concepts earn their place by changing a decision on the ice.
Goalie technique is constrained by gear in a way skater technique is not. Atlas gives goalies their own equipment node so no goalie is ever handed skater stick-length heuristics.
Coaching note · Developing
Check pad seal monthly and after any growth spurt.
Teaching lens · Teen (13–17)
Pair every read with the decision it changes, then rep it against real resistance.
Cue: “What was your second option on that play?”
Session dose · 15–25 minutes, with one game-speed progression.
The reads
- Do my knees land in the cradle when I drop?
- Do both pads seal flat to the ice, or does one roll?
- Can I recover without fighting the pad's height?
Knees in the cradle, both pads sealed
- Knees land in the cradle, not below it.
- Both pads flat: a rolled pad is usually a fit problem.
- Re-check when you grow, not once a season.

Common mistakes
Each mistake is paired with the fix a coach would actually say.
Copying a pro's pad length.
Fit to your knee-stack and thigh rise, not to a name.
Blaming technique for a gear problem.
Check the seal and the knee landing before rebuilding a butterfly.
Decision scenario
Read the conditions first — the right answer is the best one under these conditions, not a universal rule.
You are leaking pucks under your right arm and your right pad rolls when you drop.
Conditions that decide this
- · The problem appeared after a growth spurt.
- · Your left side seals normally.
Change these conditions and the best answer changes with them.
Practice this on purpose
Only reps that are feasible in your practice reality (any setting · 20 min) are shown. A logged rep is evidence for one named learning outcome only — never for another position's concept.
None of this concept's reps are feasible in the practice setting you told us about. Update your practice reality in onboarding, or use this lesson's reads as conversation and visualization work until the right setting is available.
Self-report override
The guided path to Understood is the decision scenario, and to Practiced is logging a rep. These buttons are your own honest self-report — Atlas does not verify them, and views or clicks never count as mastery.
Where this connects
Nothing in Atlas is a dead end.
Next concept

Goalie communication
You face the whole ice. One early word — time, pressure, reverse, back door — changes a teammate's decision before it becomes a mistake.
